波田 スエ子さん １９３６年広島市生まれ。学童疎開から戻り、４ヶ月ぶりに家族がそろって楽しい一夜を過ごした翌日、１９４５年８月６日、爆心地から８００メートルの自宅で被爆。家族を失い、一人生き残る。当時８歳。その後、生活のために働き１５歳で結婚。自分一人が生き残ったことに罪悪感を抱きながら戦後を送る。大病を機に、体験を語り継いでいくことの必要性を感じ、証言活動を始める。命の尊さ、核兵器廃絶を祈りながら、自らの体験を語り続けている。
Ms. Sueko HADA was eight years old when the world’s first atomic bomb was dropped on the city of Hiroshima by the United States on August 6, 1945. She lost all of her family members in the blast, and has struggled physically ever since then. She has devoted her life to speaking the truth about what such weapons do to people.
At a time when the issue of radiation as a modern weapon of war (in Afghanistan, Iraq and elsewhere) is more important than ever, Ms. Hada brings to us a valuable viewpoint of war…as seen through the eyes of an atomic bomb survivor.
